Active Women Arise Africa (AWA-Africa) proudly took part in a UNDP South Sudan training for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The three-day program ran from 20–22 August 2025 and brought together implementing partners from across South Sudan.
The training focused on strengthening technical skills, improving programme quality, and promoting accountability in operational delivery. For AWA-Africa, this was an opportunity to learn, share experiences, and deepen its understanding of HACT systems.
Participating in this training reflects AWA-Africa’s commitment to transparent, efficient, and context-sensitive programming. It also reinforced the importance of collaboration and continuous learning in ensuring that projects reach communities effectively.
Objectives of the HACT Training
The UNDP South Sudan training for CSOs had clear goals designed to strengthen the capacity of implementing partners like AWA-Africa.
The main objectives were to:
- Strengthen Technical Capacity – Equip staff with practical skills to manage cash transfers efficiently and follow proper financial procedures.
- Enhance Programme Quality – Improve planning, monitoring, and reporting to ensure programmes meet community needs and achieve measurable impact.
- Promote Accountability in Operational Delivery – Encourage transparency, risk management, and responsible reporting to uphold high standards in humanitarian work.
These objectives ensure that CSOs can deliver projects that are efficient, transparent, and effective, while also building a culture of learning and collaboration among partners.

Key Learning Outcomes
The three-day UNDP South Sudan training provided AWA-Africa staff with practical knowledge and insights to improve programme delivery.
Some of the key outcomes included:
- Practical HACT Skills – Staff learned step-by-step procedures for managing cash transfers, including financial tracking, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Improved Programme Planning – The training emphasized designing programmes that are responsive to community needs, with clear indicators to measure impact.
- Strengthened Accountability – Participants explored ways to maintain transparency, document processes, and manage risks effectively.
- Enhanced Collaboration – Engaging with other CSO partners offered opportunities to exchange experiences, share best practices, and build stronger networks.
These learnings not only enhance AWA-Africa’s operational efficiency but also reinforce its commitment to delivering transparent and context-sensitive programmes across South Sudan.
Networking and Collaboration
Beyond technical skills, the UNDP South Sudan training offered AWA-Africa a valuable chance to connect with other Civil Society Organizations.
Participants shared experiences, discussed challenges, and explored innovative approaches to implementing HACT systems. This exchange helped staff learn practical solutions from peers and understand how other CSOs manage accountability, programme quality, and operational delivery.
Building these networks is crucial for future collaborations. By working closely with other partners, AWA-Africa can strengthen coordination, avoid duplication, and ensure that programmes reach communities more efficiently.
The training also highlighted the importance of learning from one another. Networking created a space for dialogue, mutual support, and the exchange of ideas that can improve CSO performance across South Sudan.
Commitment to Transparent Programming
Participation in the UNDP South Sudan training reinforced AWA-Africa’s commitment to transparent and accountable programming.
Staff learned practical approaches to strengthen oversight, document processes, and manage risks effectively. This ensures that every project is delivered efficiently and meets the highest standards of accountability.
The training also emphasized context-sensitive programming—designing and implementing activities that respond to the unique needs of communities across South Sudan. By combining transparency with adaptability, AWA-Africa can ensure resources are used responsibly and reach those who need them most.
This experience strengthens the organization’s overall operational integrity and builds trust with communities, partners, and donors.
