At AWA AFRICA, we believe that every woman and girl deserves to live free from fear, harm, and discrimination. Our Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response Program is rooted in the understanding that addressing GBV requires more than reactive solutions — it demands a community-driven, survivor-centered approach that tackles the root causes and provides pathways to healing and justice.
We take a multi-dimensional approach to preventing and responding to GBV, tailored to meet the complex needs of affected women, girls, and communities — especially in displacement and crisis contexts.
We provide confidential, compassionate care for survivors of GBV, helping them rebuild their sense of safety, dignity, and control. Our trained counselors offer trauma-informed support tailored to cultural and individual contexts.
In collaboration with local authorities and protection actors, we ensure survivors have access to justice. Our team facilitates legal referrals, monitors case progress, and supports survivors throughout the process.
We organize grassroots campaigns to challenge harmful social norms and practices. Using storytelling, community dialogues, and local media, we promote gender equality and advocate for zero tolerance toward violence.
We establish and maintain women- and girl-friendly spaces in IDP camps and high-risk areas. These centers offer a safe haven for learning, healing, connection, and empowerment.
Lasting change requires everyone. We engage men and young people through mentorship, training, and dialogue to become champions of gender justice and active agents of prevention.
