Founder AWA AFRICA
AWA-AFRICA was founded not in offices or boardrooms—but in the villages, IDP camps, and communities that carry the weight of South Sudan’s challenges.
From day one, we have worked hand-in-hand with local leaders, women’s groups, youth, and traditional authorities to ensure that solutions are grounded in lived realities.
We view women not as passive recipients of aid, but as powerful agents of peace, healing, and reconstruction. In the fragile window opened by the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement, AWA-AFRICA positioned itself as a people-first organization working to ensure that the dividends of peace reach those who need them most.
We center our work on the voices, insights, and leadership of the communities we serve, ensuring solutions are homegrown and sustainable.
We actively involve women, youth, and marginalized groups in shaping decisions, programs, and outcomes that affect their lives.
We prioritize trauma-informed care and protection services to help individuals heal and rebuild in safe, supportive environments.
We go beyond emergency response to build systems and capacities that foster dignity, self-reliance, and lasting change.
