Women’s Economic Empowerment

Building Independence, One Woman at a Time

At AWA AFRICA, we believe that when a woman is economically empowered, her entire community benefits. Through our Women’s Economic Empowerment program, we equip women and girls with the skills, resources, and confidence to take control of their financial futures.

We focus on sustainable income generation, entrepreneurship, and community-based financial systems to create lasting change in the lives of vulnerable women, especially in crisis-affected and rural communities.

Our Core Interventions

We support the formation and growth of VSLAs — self-managed, community-based savings groups that provide women with a safe space to save, borrow, and invest. In addition to financial access, VSLAs foster mutual support, accountability, and leadership among women.

Vocational and Technical Skills Training

We offer hands-on training in high-demand skills such as:

  • Tailoring and fashion design

  • Baking and food processing

  • Agribusiness and small-scale farming

These programs are tailored to local market needs, ensuring that women can turn their skills into reliable sources of income.

Support for Women-led Small Enterprises

AWA AFRICA provides business mentorship, startup kits, and market linkage support to help women launch and grow their own small businesses. We work closely with women entrepreneurs to strengthen their financial literacy, customer service, and business planning capabilities.

Our Impact

  • Dozens of VSLAs launched and thriving across communities

  • Hundreds of women trained in sustainable vocational skills

  • Women-led businesses generating income and reinvesting in their families’ wellbeing
